[edit] Introduction
Photoshop and programs like it are wonderful tools. When it comes to editing and enhancing your pictures you will find that it is very straightforward and easy to learn. Photoshop comes with excellent tutorials to help you along your way. You can learn the basics very quickly, and do things you may never have imagined! While these tutorials are great, make sure you take time to explore all the different options on your own. Mix and match... enjoy the tools at your disposal. You might enjoy photo effects that you never thought you would like. With time you'll know what will make your photos just right for you.
When working with photo shop programs, I suggest that you always make a copy of the file you are editing, just in case you don't like what you've done in two or three weeks time.
